Mr. Cohen is a senior trial lawyer with over 38 years of experience litigating and trying a wide variety of product liability, toxic tort, construction, environmental and groundwater contamination, professional liability, premises liability, automotive and trucking, class action, and business litigation matters.

He leads trial teams in New Jersey and New York, often working collaboratively with other lawyers around the country as a virtual law firm. He often serves as national, regional and local counsel to foreign and domestic clients and their lawyers and is outside general counsel to a number of companies. He is known as an assertive and professional advocate, and clients regularly cite to his strategic thinking, integrity, professionalism, and management skills as the reason for retaining the firm. Recently, he was described by a client as "the best attorney I work with in this country. He is highly ethical and cutting edge in case analysis and early resolution. In a word: Outstanding."

Mr. Cohen serves as Chair-Elect of the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section and will serve as Chair from August 2018 to August 2019. He has been recognized by peers in numerous professional organizations in which he has served, including as Chair of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Toxic and Hazardous Substances Committee, Chair of the ABA TIPS Commercial Transportation Litigation Committee, Self Insurers and Risk Managers Committee, and Products, General Liability & Consumer Law Committee, and the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Product Liability and Toxic Tort Section. He is a member of the Product Liability Advisory Council, the Litigation Counsel of America, and the Trucking Industry Defense Association. He has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America, Top Attorneys in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly, and in New Jersey Super Lawyers in various categories.   • High profile class action medical monitoring and groundwater contamination claim for a major chemical company for $20 million involving complex strict liability, public and private nuisance, trespass, and RCRA claims.
  • $22 million arbitration brought against an engineering firm for issues relating to defective asphalt and construction involving complex engineering, construction and expert/causation issues. Thirty days of trial, resulted in a complete defense verdict for our client.
  • Class action defense of a major building products company involving claims of strict liability, breach of warranty, consumer fraud, negligence, and other claims.
  • Defense of substantial commercial litigation involving contract dispute of $20 million in pending and future claims.
  • Defense of design professionals or owners in over 50 cases involving claims for design, construction oversight and administration and construction defect claims.
  • Defense of premises owners and contractors on claims concerning safety, medical monitoring and neighborhood exposures.
  • Defense of a major automobile manufacturer in New Jersey product liability litigation.
  • Defense of environmental consultants in more than 30 cases involving soil remediation and groundwater contamination matters.
  • Defense of hundreds of cases involving self-insured and insured private and public trucking companies in wrongful death, personal injury and property damage matters.
  • National coordinating counsel for a major Canadian asbestos mining company (1982-2002) in 25 states. Currently national asbestos litigation counsel for a group of construction companies, an equipment manufacturer, and a major elevator manufacturer, and New Jersey and New York counsel for a major automobile manufacturer, a chemical manufacturer and four other companies in premises liability and product cases.
