Porzio Managing Principal Argues Before the New Jersey Supreme Court

2/27/2018

Porzio's Managing Principal, Vito A. Gagliardi, Jr., argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court in Paff v. Ocean County Prosecutor's Office on behalf of amicus New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.  The lawsuit will address whether the recordings taken by police dashboard cameras and body cameras are accessible to the public under the Open Public Records Act (OPRA).

Mr. Gagliardi, on behalf of the Police Chiefs Association, provided the Court with the significant statewide ramifications of publically releasing police “dashcam” and “bodycam” recordings without the appropriate safeguards.  Mr. Gagliardi argued that certain safeguards are necessary to protect individual privacy rights, and to ensure the authenticity and integrity of criminal investigations.

The Supreme Court is expected to issue its decision later this year.
