School Safety and Compliance Initiative Launched at Porzio Compliance Services

4/23/2018 | News

In the wake of recent tragedies at some of our nation's schools, matters of school safety and compliance are constantly weighing on the minds of school employees, administrators, boards of education, and many others who interact with our schools and students on a regular basis. To help address this serious situation, Porzio Compliance Services has created the School Safety and Compliance team, a specialized team that has been developed in response to concerns about the likelihood and impact of violence on a safe learning environment for students and school employees.

Led by attorneys and professionals with deep backgrounds in education and security, including a former Special Agent in Charge of the Newark Field Office of the United States Secret Service, the knowledge and experience of the School Safety and Compliance team at Porzio Compliance Solutions is unmatched in the State of New Jersey. The team will focus on assisting schools in all aspects of security and compliance from physical threat assessments to incident response plans, information compliance and security, employee training, and advocacy to assist schools in securing resources to support and maintain the most secure environment for students and staff.

Porzio Compliance Services School Safety and Compliance Team includes:

  • David Hespe, former Commissioner of Education and former First Assistant Attorney General
  • Elizabeth Shea, former Assistant Commissioner of Human Services and former head of the Division of Developmental Disabilities
  • James, Mottola, former Special Agent in charge of the Newark Field Office of the United States Secret Service

On Monday, April 23, 2018, members of Porzio's School Safety and Compliance team testified before the Senate Education Committee and the Assembly Education Committee to offer their expertise to assist in creating safer learning environments.

Their testimony focused on three primary recommendations:

  • School Safety Initiatives for Children with Disabilities
  • Predictive Planning for Future Threats
  • Comprehensive Approach to Security

This joint hearing is one of three hearings hosted by the Senate, Assembly Education Committees, that the public can comment on issues related to school safety issues.
