Business Development and Marketing Manager

Job Description

Position Summary: The Business Development and Marketing Manager is a core member of the Business Development and Marketing team and is responsible for leading and executing the ongoing business development and marketing efforts for practices and industries for Porzio, Bromberg & Newman and its subsidiary companies. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this position will provide strategic guidance and execute tactics identified to achieve specific business development, marketing, and client retention and expansion objectives for designated practices and industries across the firm. May supervise other business development and marketing personnel.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Practice Group Liaison - Serve as initial resource to designated practice groups and teams for business development and marketing initiatives within the areas highlighted below.
  • Build and sustain “trusted marketing advisor” relationships with all internal clients and stakeholders by providing innovative ideas and outstanding client service to lawyers across the firm.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of designated practice areas by tracking key clients, market developments, competitive and business intelligence, and leveraging internal and external resources.
  • Work with practice group leaders to develop marketing and business development plans in alignment with the firm's identified priorities.
  • Attend, participate in, and help lead practice group meetings.
  • Develop customized responses to pitches, proposals, and RFPs and other marketing collateral for new business opportunities and client meetings.
  • Contribute to firm wide cross-selling efforts by identifying targets, helping to articulate practice-driven business development strategies, and working with attorneys on specific business development objectives
  • Conduct research and collaborate with research services to explore and analyze clients, prospects, competitors, and market level intelligence for use in business development strategy.
  • Monitor industry and trade organizations for upcoming events, speaking engagements, opportunities for thought leadership, and sponsorships.
  • Work with designated practices and proactively lead and execute communication strategies related to internal and external communications including client alerts, posted articles, and email marketing.
  • Manage all aspects of practice specific marketing and communications including development of collateral, articles and client alerts, PR and media strategy, drafting of content, and maintaining targeted email marketing lists.
  • Work with practice group leaders to manage day to day aspects related to business development and marketing including tracking and approving related expenses, and development of, and ongoing reporting on business development and marketing budgets.
  • Lead and execute firm, client, industry, and trade related events.
  • Work to develop and maintain best practices for marketing and business development across all designated practices.
  • Collaborate across the Marketing Department to ensure transparency, knowledge-sharing, increased team efficiencies, and to maximize the firm’s resources.


Position Skills and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from a four-year accredited college or university required, MBA/JD a plus;
  • 5-7 years of business development and marketing experience in a professional services firm;
  • Superior written communication, oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, provide superior internal client service, and be comfortable delivering under pressure in a team focused environment with limited administrative support;
  • Intellectual curiosity related to law firms, lawyers, and the various areas of law handled by the firm;
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively lead initiatives and identify opportunities for process improvements.

The duties of the Business Development and Marketing Manager include, but are not limited to, those listed above. The Business Development and Marketing Manager may be assigned responsibility for other projects as deemed necessary by the CMO and firm management.
