Business Development and Marketing Specialist



Position Summary:  The Business Development and Marketing Specialist is a core member of the Business Development and Marketing team and is responsible for supporting the ongoing business development and marketing efforts for practices and industries for Porzio, Bromberg & Newman and its subsidiary companies. Under the supervision of senior team members, the Business Development and Marketing Specialist will work with team members, lawyers, administrative departments, and outside vendors to support RFPs, proposals and pitches, execute internal and external communications initiatives, coordinate and track sponsorships, support and plan client events and seminars, and work with various pieces of marketing technology. This position will also support the CMO on specific projects related to the strategic plan and leadership of the Business Development and Marketing team. 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Business Development - Work with Business Development and Marketing team to support assigned practices and subsidiary companies across the firm including but not limited to:
    • Facilitate tracking and reporting of business development initiatives
    • Coordinate content, document production and tracking for RFP responses, proposals, and pitches
    • Assist in practice specific strategic initiatives including updating and managing target lists, assisting with drafting and updating business plans, and tracking  various business development initiatives
    • Assist in coordination and project management of outside sponsorships, speaking engagements and involvement in trade organizations
    • Engage with attorneys as needed to execute and complete projects
    • Work with Business Development and Marketing team to serve as practice specific liaison and subject matter expert for assigned practice groups and industries in the firm 
  • Communications and Marketing Technology – Execute all aspects of digital marketing and communications initiatives for assigned practices firm wide, including but not limited to:
    • Maintain and execute practice specific external communications plans
    • Execute digital and non-digital communications initiatives including:
      • Posting articles and other media items to websites,
      • Drafting and scheduling social media posts
      • Creating, editing, and sending electronic announcements, client alerts, and invitations using email marketing system
      • Coordinating printed collateral or other marketing pieces
    • Track and report on practice specific PR activity
    • Edit and update website content including attorney biographies, practice descriptions and representative experience
    • Provide graphic design support for marketing collateral 
  • Market Awareness & Events – Working with senior team members, coordinate all aspects of firm events to ensure that consistent process and best practices are applied to every event. Responsibilities include:
    • Coordinating with outside venues and caterers on menu, a/v and room set up
    • Coordinating with other departments for internal events
    • Coordinating all aspects of invitation and event communication, and RSVP tracking
    • Managing and executing legal awards and rankings
  • CMO / Department Support
    • Maintain team project log to track all events, PR activities, pitches/proposals and other projects for use in department reporting
    • Responsible for department administrative tasks including:
      • Scheduling meetings and travel as needed
      • Processing and tracking marketing expenses
      • Assisting CMO with administrative projects as needed
    • Coordinate firm-wide branded items, inventory of gifts, giveaways, and other collateral
    • Coordinate all aspects of onboarding new hires including creating, managing and maintaining new hire project plan, drafting press releases and biographies, ordering business cards, setting up online bio, and planning photoshoot
    • Maintain department repository of information in appropriate systems

Position Skills and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from a four-year accredited college or university required.
  • 3-5 years of law firm or other professional services industry marketing and business development experience, or agency experience preferred.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint and Excel, and a willingness to provide writing samples.
  • Proficiency working with marketing technology tools including: email management systems, content management systems, CRM systems.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, self-starter, with high attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to acquire new skills and take direction.
  • Flexibility in daily work schedule to meet firm's needs during periods of heavy workload.
  • A valid driver’s license or the ability to transport oneself to off-site meeting locations independently of mass transit, if necessary.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines, work independently, and work well under pressure while handling multiple priorities.  Attention to fine detail is a must.  
  • Self-starter with flexibility and adaptability to changing work priorities, work flow, and work assignments.
  • Exposure to personal information requires confidentiality, discretion, and judgment.

The duties of the Business Development and Marketing Specialist include, but are not limited to, those listed above. The Business Development and Marketing Specialist may be assigned responsibility for other projects as deemed necessary by the CMO and firm management.
