Porzio Secures Appellate Victory Saving Seaside Park $1 Million Per Year in Regional School Funding
Thanks to a unanimous Appellate Division ruling obtained by Porzio's Education Team, taxpayers in Seaside Park will save $1 million annually in its regional school tax levy.
By successfully defending Seaside Park's relationship with both Toms River and Lavallette for the education of its students in grades K-6, Porzio created a precedent-setting choice for the education of Seaside Park's younger students and positively effected Seaside Park's tax levy formula for the Central Regional School District, which serves grades 7-12 students from Seaside Park and four other towns. That formula has Seaside Park subsidizing the education of the children in the other towns, but the formula is impacted positively by Seaside Park's increased elementary enrollment – that impact now will save Seaside Park $1 million per year.
Education Team co-chair Vito A. Gagliardi, Jr. said, "This effort to add some equity to this unfair formula has been underway for over ten years, but the long-term benefits for the beleaguered taxpayers of Seaside Park are substantial. It has been an honor to handle a matter of such importance for this community."
