Porzio Expands Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring Practice with Addition of Sydney J. Darling as Of Counsel

Porzio, Bromberg & Newman P.C. welcomes Sydney J. Darling to the firm's Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Group, effective May 24, 2021. 

Ms. Darling is an experienced attorney who will focus her practice on commercial bankruptcy matters. She has represented secured and unsecured creditors, chapter 11 trustees, liquidating trustees, creditors’ committees, asset purchasers, property owners/landlords and other interested parties in bankruptcy cases. Ms. Darling has a wide array of experience in litigation and transactional matters in the areas of business and commercial law, financial services, risk management, insolvency and real estate and has represented lenders, distressed debt investors and other creditors in connection with the disposition of nonperforming loans and assets outside of bankruptcy, including prosecuting real estate, Article 9 and tax sale foreclosures. Her litigation experience includes a variety of business and commercial actions. She has represented numerous clients at the trial and appellate levels of state, federal and bankruptcy courts in New Jersey and New York, including the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and New Jersey Appellate Division. 

Complementing her litigation practice, Ms. Darling has experience representing property owners, developers and landlords in a wide range of commercial and real estate transactions, counseling parties in connection with the acquisition, disposition, and improvement of real property, preparing non-consolidation opinion letters, and negotiating and drafting various forms of real estate and construction contracts.

Ms. Darling joins Porzio's nationally-recognized Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Practice as the team continues to see significant growth in this area. “We are very busy and continue to see opportunities in the insolvency arena, whether it’s assisting businesses restructure their debts or helping creditors navigate a troubled credit,” said John Mairo, Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring Group Co-Chair. “Sydney is an excellent addition to our talented team.”   

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Darling was a Partner in private practice. She served a clerkship with the Honorable Raymond T. Lyons (Ret.), United States Bankruptcy Judge, District of New Jersey. Ms. Darling received her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Marist College.
