2/28/2023

Three attorneys from Porzio, Bromberg & Newman served as coordinators for the Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition in Morris County.  In this role, David Disler (Employment and Education), Christopher Mazza (Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring), and Raquel R. Rivera (Litigation), worked with approximately thirteen Morris County high schools, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, and the Morris County Superior Court to organize the competition.  During the competition, 170 students from the thirteen Morris County high schools competed as attorneys, jurors, and witnesses.  The competition serves to help students better understand the law, court procedures, and the justice system and improve their basic life and leadership skills.

Mr. Disler, Mr. Mazza, and Ms. Rivera worked with the local school districts, sought volunteer attorneys throughout the county to serve as judges and coaches, ran the competitions, determined who advanced based on the judges' results, and issued CLE credit to participating attorneys.

The Morris County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, and the New Jersey Bar Association sponsored the competition.  The Honorable Claudia R. Jones, J.S.C., The Honorable Vijayant Pawar, J.S.C., The Honorable Marcy M. McMann, J.S.C., and The Honorable Louis S. Sceusi, J.S.C. served as judges for the semifinals.  The Honorable Stuart A. Minkowitz, A.J.S.C. and The Honorable James M. DeMarzo, J.S.C. served as judges for the finals.
