Porzio, Bromberg & Newman Serves as Counsel to Ad Hoc Retiree Group in Uniroyal Holding Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

8/05/2026

Porzio, Bromberg & Newman has been retained as counsel to the Ad Hoc Group of Retirees in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of Uniroyal Holding Inc. and Great Hill Corp., pending before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

Uniroyal Holding filed for Chapter 11 protection on July 31, 2026, seeking to address decades of legacy asbestos liabilities and retiree benefit obligations through a court-supervised restructuring. The filing follows a restructuring support agreement with law firms representing approximately 88% of known asbestos personal injury and wrongful death claimants and is intended to facilitate a comprehensive resolution of both asbestos claims and retiree benefit obligations.

The proposed Chapter 11 plan contemplates the establishment of a trust to resolve current and future asbestos-related claims, payment in full of non-personal injury claims, and the eventual dissolution of the debtor entities. The debtors are also pursuing a consensual modification of retiree benefit programs that would provide fully funded replacement life insurance coverage and funding intended to support comparable or enhanced medical and prescription drug benefits through third-party providers.

Uniroyal Holding has managed asbestos-related liabilities and retiree benefits since a 1985 corporate restructuring. The company reports that it has faced more than 516,000 asbestos-related claims over that period and currently administers benefits for approximately 140 retirees.
The Porzio team, led by bankruptcy and restructuring principals Rachel A. Parisi and Robert M. Schechter, is advising the Ad Hoc Group of Retirees on issues involving proposed modifications to retiree benefits and the broader Chapter 11 restructuring process.

Porzio's Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring team represents creditors, committees, debtors, trustees, pension and retiree groups, patient care ombudsmen and other stakeholders in complex Chapter 11 proceedings, insolvency matters, and out-of-court restructurings nationwide.
