Porzio Managing Principal Vito A. Gagliardi, Jr. Quoted in Article on Elizabeth BOE Members' Decision to Hire Councilman for School Job
Porzio Managing Principal Vito A. Gagliardi, Jr. was quoted in the NJ.com article, "Elizabeth BOE Members Were Wrong to Hire Councilman to School Job, Judge Says," by Marisa Iati on March 27, 2017.
In a written decision on March 20, 2017, Judge Thomas R. Betancourt stated that four Elizabeth school board members with ties to city government broke state ethics rules when they voted to hire Councilman Frank Cuesta to the role of Acting Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.
Mr. Gagliardi, attorney for the school board members, stated via email that Betancourt's decision disregards facts proving that the board members did not violate ethics rules. He stated, "We note that this initial recommendation has no impact on these board members' continued ability to serve or on Mr. Cuesta's employment status with the district. We look forward to a successful end to this dispute, which was commenced by a disgruntled former board member and former board employee."
