Porzio, Bromberg & Newman principal Jennifer Romanski has been named a Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award recipient from the Burton Awards, a national program that celebrates exceptional legal writing and practice. Run in association with the Library of Congress and sponsored by Law360 and the American Bar Association, the Burton Awards recognized Romanski for her article titled “Prepare For Scrutiny In Marketing Contraception After Dobbs.”

The article, published by Law360 in August 2022, examines the regulatory landscape for contraceptive marketing following the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. At that time, as many women were reevaluating their approach to reproductive health care and taking steps to safeguard their access to contraception, pharmaceutical companies were reevaluating their marketing and advertising strategies in a post-Dobbs era.

The 24th annual Burton Awards ceremony, followed by a gala reception, dinner, and performance by late-night talk show host Seth Meyers, will be held at the Library of Congress on Monday, June 12, 2023. Romanski is one of just 25 authors to receive the 2023 Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award. Her article was selected from entries submitted by the nation’s 1,000 largest firms.

“I’m honored to be selected as a Burton Awards winner,” said Romanski. “To be recognized for my insights on a critically important issue facing the life sciences industry and our society is even more rewarding.”

Romanski has broad experience counseling pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies in regulatory and compliance matters. Her advice touches on corporate compliance programs, advertising and promotion activities, scientific exchange and publication planning, interactions with healthcare practitioners, grants and continuing medical education programs, FDA enforcement activity, and sample accountability and PDMA requirements.

The award winners were selected by judges and law school professors from Harvard Law School, Georgetown Law Center, and UC Berkeley Law School. Judges on the distinguished Legal Writing Awards committee were selected based on their understanding, experience and passion for legal writing, and evaluated entries based on their clarity, cogency and persuasiveness.

The Burton Awards were established in 1999 to honor the finest accomplishments in law, including writing, achievements in legal reform, public service, public interest work, and lifetime achievements in the profession.
