In June 2021, the White House released a report titled, Building Resilient Supply Chains, Revitalizing American Manufacturing, and Fostering Broad-Based Growth. According to the report, “Dependence on foreign nations has been cited as a key vulnerability for the U.S. drug supply chain.” With a history of pharmaceutical manufacturing dating back to the 1970s, and with 12 of the 20 largest drug makers maintaining some pharmaceutical manufacturing on the island, what does the current landscape of pharmaceutical manufacturing in Puerto Rico look like? What steps are currently underway to increase pharmaceutical production and move away from dependencies on India and China for drug products and medical devices?
