Overview
Maria F. Galante is a Principal in Porzio, Bromberg & Newman’s Wealth Preservation Team, where she advises high net worth individuals, families, and closely held business owners on sophisticated estate, tax, and wealth transfer planning strategies. She designs and implements customized structures that integrate estate planning, asset protection, fiduciary administration, and trust and estate litigation, with a particular focus on multijurisdictional families.
A native of Colombia and a fluent Spanish speaker, Maria brings a global perspective to her practice and regularly counsels Latin American and other international clients on U.S. estate tax and succession issues. She is admitted to practice law in New York and Colombia and draws on her civil law and common law training to bridge legal systems and collaborate seamlessly with foreign advisors.
Maria's work includes advanced planning for large estates, business succession and entity structuring, tax efficient wealth transfers, and elder law and Medicaid strategies, often coordinating across family offices, investment professionals, and multidisciplinary advisory teams. She is completing her Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation at the University of Florida, building on her LL.M. in Banking, Corporate and Finance Law from Fordham University School of Law and her law degree from Universidad de la Sabana in Colombia.
Deeply committed to equity and representation in the profession, Maria is actively involved in bar leadership and diversity initiatives with the New York Women’s Bar Association, the Queens Bar Association and the Latino Lawyers Association, including service on diversity and inclusion committees, and she frequently mentors junior attorneys and law students. Her leadership reflects her dedication to advancing inclusion and amplifying Latina voices in the New York legal community.
